The cushion of discord at the Toulouse Cathedral

Suffering from gout, Gaspard de Fieubet obtains in 1657 from Archbishop Pierre de Marca the right to use a cushion to kneel in the choir of the cathedral. This painful position for his joints pushes him to claim this unusual arrangement for the time. This personal and privileged usage will finally be contested in the Council of State forty years later.
