Tolkien wrote an entire short story in a few hours

Leaf by Niggle is a short story by J. R. R. Tolkien written in the spring of 1942. Contrary to the professor's habits, the author woke up one morning with the plot fully formed in his mind, writing it in one go with almost no correction. The text was finally published for the first time in January 1945 in issue 432 of the periodical The Dublin Review.
