The first work of François Mansart
The Saint-Bernard church received a new facade in 1624 thanks to funding from Louis XIII. The architect François Mansart obtained his first major commission there at the age of twenty-five, drawing direct inspiration from the Saint-Gervais church. This Parisian achievement, now located at number 14 of the rue de Castiglione, suffered from a lack of perspective because it faced only the convent courtyard.
