The Faroe pony sleeps standing up

The Faroe Islands pony is a hardy breed of pony that sleeps entirely standing up to protect its belly from bad weather. According to Bonnie Lou Hendricks, this posture allows the animal to preserve this area considered a thermal weak point and to keep it dry. Literary sources from the 1600s to 1800s also mention that these animals were trained to lead sheep themselves.
