The Faroe pony is very close to the Icelandic horse

The Faroe pony is one of the oldest and purest equine breeds in the world. Researchers conducted comparative genetic analyses to determine its exact origins. Their results were presented in September 2004 in Tokyo by Sofia Mikko, Carl-Gustaf Thulin and Tróndur Leivsson during a scientific congress of The International Society for Animal Genetics.
