The word fantasia comes from a French painter

The fantasia is an equestrian tradition of the Maghreb consisting of a simulated military assault crowned by a rifle shot. This ancient practice received its name in 1832 thanks to the French painter Eugène Delacroix and his orientalist paintings. It became from then on a favorite subject for several other illustrious artists such as Eugène Fromentin or Marià Fortuny.
