A hockey team founded out of rejection of Icelandic immigrants

The Winnipeg Falcons are an ice hockey team created around 1909. This team brought together exclusively players of Icelandic origin, who were excluded from other Winnipeg clubs due to strong racial prejudices. It took its definitive name in reference to the silver falcon appearing on the coat of arms of Iceland since 1903.
