Ventas were born from wartime restrictions

Ventas are border businesses born from tariff disparities and local needs. Most of them emerged during the Second World War, in direct response to the food restrictions that affected French territory. Currently, these shops are distributed along the border with Spain, including eleven in the municipality of Zugarramurdi.
