The ECM New Series branch was born thanks to Arvo Pärt

The ECM label founded a division dedicated to non-jazz music, named ECM New Series. This creation occurring in 1984 was directly motivated by the importance given to the composer Arvo Pärt and for the release of his piece Tabula rasa. This branch subsequently supported the distribution of many contemporary composers from the former Soviet Union.
