George R.R. Martin was sidelined from House of the Dragon

George R.R. Martin is the author of the original work that inspired the television series House of the Dragon. Major disagreements regarding the narrative direction pitted the writer against showrunner Ryan Condal, notably because of significant changes made to the novel Fire and Blood. The situation escalated to the point that HBO asked the writer to withdraw from the production, before calling him back in January 2026.
