An entire island disappeared during the eruption of Krakatoa

Krakatoa is a volcanic archipelago whose topography was deeply altered by a violent eruption in 1883. Before this cataclysmic event, a wooded islet named Poolsche Hoed stood near the island of Lang because of its shape evoking a head covering. The power of the explosion was such that this islet was entirely annihilated and wiped off the map.
