More than 400 treaties signed and violated

The Indian Wars are the set of conflicts opposing the North American settlers and governments to the Indigenous peoples from 1778 to 1890. The American historian Howard Zinn recalls that the United States governments concluded more than four hundred diplomatic agreements with these populations. These treaties were all violated without exception, illustrating the violence of the conquest which reduced the Amerindian population to 250,000 people in 1890.
