Anak Krakatau is a volcanic island originating from Krakatoa that appeared during the 20th century. On December 22, 2018, this volcano underwent a particularly violent eruption that reduced its height by two thirds. This collapse immediately generated a deadly tsunami on the coasts of the Sunda Strait.
