Princess Frederika refused to change her first name to get married
Princess Frederika of Hanover gave a categorical refusal to the Orthodox Church which asked her to adopt a local first name. As no Orthodox saint then bore her first name, the Holy Synod wished for her to choose a name such as Olga, Sophie or Marguerite. The institution finally had to give in to the intransigence of the young woman who considered her identity to be unalterable.
