A princely affair stifled by scandal

Princess Elisabeth of Romania began an affair with the British diplomat Frank Rattigan around the time of her engagement to George of Greece. According to the biographer Geoffrey Wansell, this adulterous relationship resulted in an unwanted pregnancy and an abortion forced by the royal family. This episode also led to the dismissal of Frank Rattigan following a direct intervention from Athens.
