A Manhattan neighborhood is attached to the mainland

Marble Hill is a neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan that is actually located on the mainland. This enclave was detached from the island during the digging of the Spuyten Duyvil Creek canal in 1895. The filling of another canal before the First World War permanently attached this area to the Bronx.
