The rescue of the Mallorquín horse in the Balearic Islands

The Mallorquín is a local horse breed from the Balearic Islands considered critically endangered by the FAO. The Spanish Ministry of the Environment had identified only 172 individuals in December 2001 during an official census. The population has since increased slightly to reach 363 horses counted in total at the end of the year 2012.
