A coach invented the 4-3-3 formation as early as 1911

The 4-3-3 tactical formation was used as early as 1911 during a European tournament pitting Bohemia against England. Faced with the opponent's alignment of seven English forwards, coach John William Madden reorganized his team with this then-revolutionary placement. This adaptation allowed the selection to beat the English team, despite it being the dominant nation of the time.
