A Vanuatu island is led by women

Maewo is an island of Vanuatu where female chiefs are found, which remains rare in the archipelago. This peculiarity persists despite strong evangelization led from the 1870s. Today, the island also shelters traditional rites inherited from secret societies with alleged magical powers.
