The Kaaba housed an icon of the Virgin and Child

The Virgin and Child of the Kaaba is a Christian painting that was once located within the Meccan sanctuary. According to chroniclers, it depicted Mary with the Child Jesus on her lap, in a style similar to seventh-century Byzantine art. This incongruous presence in a pagan site has sparked numerous debates among modern historians regarding its exact origin.
