Feathers weigh more than the body of some birds

Bird plumage possesses multiple functions, while representing a considerable weight load. In frigatebirds, feathers thus exceed 50% of the animal's total weight. This feathery body mass also varies greatly according to species, ranging from 1,000 units in the hummingbird to more than 25,000 in the swan.
